Restaurant Review: Moana Café

TweetMoana Café is closed.   A little while back I went to a late night event at Moana Café in Paia. While according to the clock, dinner service was not yet over and so my friends and I expected to be treated as dinner guests. Yet, when we arrived we were not shown a table, we were not offered anything to drink, and we were actually removed from where we were sitting because they needed to change up the seating arrangement for the event. When someone, after more than 30 Read More …

Restaurant Review: Bistro Casanova

TweetOn Wednesday night I went to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center to see Jennifer Batten play. Before my friends and I went we decided to stop for dinner at Bistro Casanova. I have eaten there in the past, and I’ve had pretty good luck if I stuck with the caprese salad (the mozzarella is a bit watery) or the portabello mushroom on quinoa, but I wanted something a little more fun and flavorful. So, I went with the bouillabaise. I started to say something about wheat to my server Read More …

Restaurant Review: Milagros

TweetLast week I went for dinner with a friend to Milagros Food Company in Paia. Their style is a Maui style take on American-Mexican cuisine. The menu consists mainly of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and salads. They do have vegetarian options for all of the above. They also have a large selection of margaritas and a wide variety of tequilas available. I myself started out with some chips and salsa plus a Li Hing Mui margarita. If you don’t know what Li Hing Mui is then you must try it. The Read More …

Restaurant Review: Flatbread Pizza Company

Tweet UPDATE 2013: I have not eaten here since 2011. I will not be risking it again. While the staff tries to make the food safe, the amount of flour in the air and in the oven makes the cross contamination risk far too high. UPDATE 10/13/2010 Since my initial post I have had some not so good reactions to Flatbread’s pizza. I’m not sure if they’re having cross contamination issues, or are using a new ingredient that contains gluten on their pizzas, but a couple of times now my Read More …

Restaurant Review: Sansei Sushi in Kihei

Tweet Last night Devin and I went to Sansei Sushi, in Kihei, with some friends. Sansei’s waitstaff is amazing when it comes to Celiac Disease. The waitress informed me that they often have people with food allergies dining there. She was able to list every item on the menu which would be safe for me to eat. UPDATE 6/16/2011: This is still true! Sansei also has San-J Wheat Free Tamari, just ask for it. Most of what us non-gluten eaters can have are the very simple vegetarian rolls and the Read More …
