I have hated for so long now that all of the tortillas I could use were so tiny! I could only buy the extremely small corn tortillas, and they aren’t very flexible unless you heat them.
Well, along I go one day to Mana Foods in Paia and find La Tortilla Factory has a brand of gluten-free wraps called Sonoma. They are made of Ivory Teff, but according to the company site there is also a Dark Teff version on the market. Also, on the website another line of gluten-free Ivory Teff and Dark Teff wraps are available not in the Sonoma line, but I haven’t seen them yet.
The wraps are huge! Well, perhaps not huge, but at least the size of a burrito tortilla by any glutenous brand.
I made myself an avocado and Tillamook Vintage White Cheddar wrap today, topped with organic salsa, and it was the perfect post workout snack for me.
They are about $5.00 per pack of 6 wraps, and they work well for making up a bunch of burritos or wraps for the week. Cut your wrap, or burrito, in half and share with a friend. Serve the half alongside some chips or salad and you’ve got a very filling lunch.
While they don’t wrap up perfectly without cracking or ripping a little while cold, if warmed to room temperature or just slightly in the microwave they’ll be extremely pliable.
I highly recommend these wraps for those of you who are also hating the lack of larger sized tortillas in the gluten-free market. They taste great too! They don’t have any funny health food flavor to them.
